    Student, Rika Malone, and her mother share a bonding moment...

    Rika Malone has been a metalsmithing student for at least 5 years here at Whaley Studios.  She specializes in extremely small and delicate piercing in sterling silver.  Many of her animal silhouette pendants are made for the employees of her husband’s restaurant, here in Hillcrest.

    Patti Crandall, one of our continuing private students, has a remarkable story to tell.  I've known Patty for 10 years now, since she first started taking classes with me at UCSD. 

    Patty has practiced the wax carving skills she learned at UCSD, and has become an expert at it.  Now, she orders gemstones from all over the world (on Ebay) and has her wax models cast, finished, molded and stones set by a professional casting house, and markets her work through a gallery in Sonoma, CA. …
