Patti Crandall, one of our continuing private students, has a remarkable story to tell. I've known Patty for 10 years now, since she first started taking classes with me at UCSD.
Patty has practiced the wax carving skills she learned at UCSD, and has become an expert at it. Now, she orders gemstones from all over the world (on Ebay) and has her wax models cast, finished, molded and stones set by a professional casting house, and markets her work through a gallery in Sonoma, CA. …

During the many years I taught classes at UCSD, electro-plating was one of the processes we offered to our jewelry students. However, Whaley Studios has not had a plating machine until just last week. With the recent addition of our new 30 amp plating machine, we are getting into electro-plating in a big way!
Yesterday, in the studio, we successfully nickle plated and then 24k gold plated some cast bronze pendants and a gold-plated necklace, belonging to one of our students. …
